Train vs Airplane:

Assuming point A and point B are two cities between which you need to travel, there are several modes that come to mind, the foremost being that of rail and air. Choosing between air travel and rail journey is indeed tough and one that calls for comparison on the basis of several parameters.

Time is important concern which governs traveling decisions and in this regard, an aircraft scores over trains since it is likely to reach point B within a fraction of time taken by train to cover the same distance. There might some exceptions namely the bullet trains which zip through at high speeds and when compared with the time spent at the airport, the difference may not be much. However, this is often not the rule and usually trains not only take longer than airplanes but get delayed on the way too, meaning you must opt for this mode only when you have plenty of time in your hands.

Budget is yet another factor and there was a time when the train would have emerged as a clear winner in this context but not anymore. One of the hallmarks of 21st century has been emergence of budget airlines and drastic slashing of air fares. Cost often depends on the destination too and in case of multiple destinations, traveling by train still works out to be cheaper than taking a flight.

An advantage associated with train travel is the picturesque view out of the window and the space to travel comfortably in sleeper class over long distances. Relatively long flights are often boring and uncomfortable owing to cramped spaces and sitting in a single posture for many hours at a stretch. Food is served in both but in trains it is cooked overboard and in planes it is pre-packaged and hence requires a cautionary approach.

In many areas of the world with developed train transport systems, there has been a popular shift towards trains and away from planes (traditionally more popular). Some of the reasons for this have been attributed to less hassle waiting to get on a train, increased speed, efficiency and old fashioned feeling associated with the trains, generally speaking arrival into more central areas of destinations than by air travel, more flexibility and less concerns about safety.
