Scandinavian Airlines, flag carrier of Sweden, Norway and Denmark, is also the largest airline in Scandinavia. In 2012, SAS carried over 25 million passengers, which made them ninth largest airline in Europe. SAS was founded in 1946 to pool the transatlantic operations, and was extended to cover European and domestic cooperation two years later.

Comparing them to Alitalia, national airline of Italy. It’s head office is located in Rome, Italy. Airline main hub is located at Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport which is also in Rome. Alitalia is Italy’s biggest airline and 19th in the world. In 2013 it was facing bankrupcy so Etihad Airways took a 49% stake in Italian airline. The deal became effective on January 1, 2015.
