Lionel Messi and Neymar are some of Barcelona’s finest footballers currently and arguably of all time. Messi is from Argentina, Neymar is from Brazil and they both have hero status in their respective countries. They come from rivalling football nations, uniting in Barcelona colours to form a fearsome partnership. As well as that, both are frequently compared to the legend of their respective countries, Diego Maradona and Pele.

Both Neymar and Messi are very technical players. Being five years older than Neymar, Messi is arguably at the prime of his career with Neymar, at 21 years of age is beginning his European journey with Barcelona.

Messi, one of the best players of all time

Lionel Messi is widely regarded as one of the best football players in the history of the game. He plays for Argentina as well as Barcelona FC. In both teams he is the leading star and captain. Messi plays as a forward. He is known for his amazing dribbling, team play, finishing and first touch and is very difficult to defend against. Lionel Messi came to Barcelona as a child in 2000. The one aspect of Messi’s game that has been criticised somewhat is his contribution in the Argentinian side where he has not been as influential as in the Barcelona colours.

Neymar – talented youngster with a lot to prove

On the other side we have Neymar, 22 years old Brazilian star, who plays for Barcelona. He is playing as striker. At the age of 19 he won 2011 South American Footballer of the Year award and then again in 2012. He came to Barcelona from Santos for €87.2 million. He immediately made effort in Barcelona and he is already considered as one of the key players. He made international debut in 2010, followed by World Cup 2014 where he was in the race for the Golden Boot until he was injured. In comparison with Messi, Neymar has a long way to go, but he has the potential to compete.
