31st March, 1974, was the day when British Airways inaugurated its operations as the flagship carrier of United Kingdom with the commitment to transport passengers to domestic and international destinations. From its base at Waterside and its principle hub at London Heathrow Airport, British Airways operates a fleet of 295 aircrafts of various sizes and is one of the few airlines in the world which has flights to all six continents. It also holds the honour of being the founding member of Oneworld Alliance and also for having created the International Airlines Group (IAG) which ranks second in Europe and third in the world in terms of revenue.

Long-distance international flights operated by British Airways are undertaken via Boeing 777 type aircraft and there are 58 of these in its 295-strong fleet. Apart from the smaller Airbus A318-100 which has the lowest capacity of 32 seats, the bigger aircrafts have a seating capacity of more than 100 and 200 respectively depending on the model.

Owing to being a parent company of several subsidiaries, it boasts of a fleet size of more than 600 aircrafts which take passengers to as many as 215 destinations dotted across the world. The name Lufthansa is a combination of ‘Luft’ the German word for air and ‘hansa’, the Latin word for guild. With its head-quarters based in Cologne, two main hubs for this airline are Frankfurt and Munich while Dusseldorf serves as a base for its local operations conducted under the banner of Germanwings.

Passengers opting to travel by Lufthansa have the freedom to choose between four classes namely First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy.
