Let’s look at some differences between the two supermarket chains, Aldi and ShopRite in USA.

Aldi
The earliest history of Aldi supermarkets goes back to 1913 when the Albrecht brothers opened a small grocery store in Essen, Germany. Aldi has made its mark today in the United States of America and it has one thousand three hundred locations in the country. There are plans to expand with few more stores in California, Florida and Texas.

ShopRite
This supermarket chain was established as a retail and consumer merchandise store initially in 1951. It has its headquarters in Keasbey, New Jersey and operates two hundred and thirty independently owned stores serving New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New York. ShopRite offers online shopping. ShopRite is a regional supermarket brand that is concentrating on its presence in the north eastern part of the United States. It has developed into a large co-operative which is retailer owned in the country and is also the largest employer among supermarkets in the State of New Jersey.

Key points for comparison
Aldi is comparatively cheaper in its prices as against ShopRite. Shoppers find it cheaper to shop at an Aldi but they find that Aldi is not adequate in terms of variety of food products offered. Aldi is also well spread throughout in the country in comparison with ShopRite that is strong only on the Eastern Seaboard. Aldi has stores in thirty two states. Shoppers prefer convenience of locations throughout the country. Aldi offers a choice to the shoppers to pick up any empty cartons from their shelves if people do not want to pay for the shopping carrier bags. Aldi has a policy of keeping its products in cartons on its shelves. It makes the restocking easier for them and allows the sore to be managed with low overhead costs. The problems that shoppers face with Aldi are that they do not accept credit cards. They accept only cash and debit cards.

At ShopRite, there have been various complaints about staff courtesy. Shoppers have found some cashiers discourteous at their stores. They feel that ShopRite needs to extensively train its staff on proper customer service etiquette.

I find that ShopRite’s produce is much better than Aldi’s. It is usually not bagged already, which I prefer. There are national brand names for the packaged goods that I recognize also.
